There are many many 武内街道 signs along the route. We also used a guide book.

On the other side of the Ishi River the roads get smaller but traffic will still wizz by. Be careful.

All of this area is famous for local grapes. This mural is on the side of a 羽曳野市 (Habikino City) fire station.

As you get closer to the 太子町 (Taishi Village) the road gets more compact.

I love the use of a laserdisk as a bird repellent.
The Taishi Village Takenouchi Kaidō museum was well worth the short diversion. There's a great map of the path inside. Sadly one half of the exhibits were closed for repair this day.

There's a small 道の駅 here. Not much for food but they have some stuff.

Just leaving the 道の駅 this might be the most dangerous part of the road. While some of it has separated walkways, this mountain pass is busy with private and commercial traffic. Be careful.

Coming down after crossing the mountain pass the pathway is much less busy or on pedestrian walkways. If you don't want to use these stairs there's a slope on the other side of the road.

We took this new access road over looking the 南阪奈道路 (Minami Hanna Road). Not officially the 武内街道 but parallel to it. The old road is down to the left (or north) of here.

From here there's a nice walking path.
Always close and lock (or latch) any gates!
Down on the Nara Plain the views of 葛城山 (Mt. Katsuragi) were outstanding.

Still on the 武内街道 for another couple 100 meters.
From 尺土駅 (Shakudo St.) We began to head south as recommend in one of our guide books. Here we found this reservoir with solar panels floating in it. Something becoming more and more common.

I was please to spot this red arrow. I am not sure but I suspect they mark the (semi?) official 西国33 route.

Ah Nara, home to some of Japanese most beautiful places with some of the ugliest roads in between.

This is actually an official path under the JR和歌山線. Very fun.
After cutting through a few mixed use neighborhoods and by a few factories along a river we ended up in this quaint neighborhood.

Here we crossed under the 京奈和自動車道 (Keinawa Road) This is a somewhat newer road that I remember being built. It wasn't here the first time I visited 壺阪寺.

Goal! We made it to 壺阪山駅 (Tsubosakayama St.)Next hike will start from hear and head up to the temple about 1 hour away.
