The route from Banbajima up Tsurugi is much less-travelled than that from Tateyama, and also perhaps the largest altitude gain (2300 meters). The map shows it as being the third steepest hike in Japan, but it is not that bad! It iscCertainly too steep to run up, but at least safe until the chains near the top where care is required. We went up in lashing rain and fog, but running shoes were sufficient. On the chained sections, it was necessary to hold the dog under one arm, and the chain with the other. |
