Last July we tried to climb Yari Hotaka traverse, but We canceled at the Mt.Yari hut because of the bad weather. As last year's revenge, we decided to start on good weather. And we decided to start Kamikochi on Wednesday,July 12.
A detailed report of Mr.evegre has been uploaded. Route and mountain topics are written in great detail, so if you are interested in this route you should also see the evegre's report.
Thu,July,12 Day 1
The weather forecast on the first day was rain at the last timing. We started climbing in the rain.
I prayed for sunny weather the following day’s morning.
Dakesawa hut was comfortable. We were able to sleep with 4 people in 8 mats. Among the few climbers, the two from Kyoto and Saitama in the same room said "We have a plan to climb to Mt.Hodaka hut’tomorrow. "
Also, I knew that a climber from Shenzhen had the same route and schedule as ours.
Here we got three companions.
Friday, July 13 Day 2
The clouds gradually disappeared in the next morning and from the Jyutaro new road the ridgeline of mt. nishi-Hotaka became clearly visible. Unfortunately, I could not see the Mt.Yari, but the Jyonen mountain range looked beautiful between the clouds.
We went smoothly from Mt.Mae-Hotaka to Mt.Hotaka hut, and we met to two men from Kyoto and Saitama again at Mt.Hotaka hut, and we acclaimed each other. They said "We are staying here and tomorrow we will going down to Kamikochi via Karasawa".
We had to walk a little less than three hours from here to Mt.Kita-Hotaka. I was still fine because I am walking slowly. However, suddenly it was a tough descent from Mt. Karasawa. I went step by step safely without being impatient.
This route was seriously descending from Mt.Karasawa, and it was a relatively easy road from the lowest Col. The weather was fine and it was not hot so I arrived at the lowest Col comfortably.
I met a group of about 20 Koreans from the Mt.Kita-hotaka. I was surprised to met many foreigners passed more today than Japanese peoples.
From around the southern ridge dome it became gas and somewhat tougher climbing and descending. Arrived at the peak of Kita-Hotaka at 4 pm.
It was a tough and fun route.
At dinner at the hut, I accompanied the mountaineers from Xi'an who live in Tokyo who was walking on the same route. They are good at Japanese. I was amazed internationalization of the North Alps.
After dinner we enjoyed sunset of the northern alps where the cloud disappeared. I enjoyed the beautiful sunset with a climber those of the same age from Kariya.
Mt.kita-Hotaka hut was not crowded tonight as well.
Saturday,July 14 Day 3
The weather was fine and we were finally start to go to the kiretto or Yari Hotaka traverse. The route began with a vertical chain field from the beginning.
There are a lot of rocky cliffs that tend to collapse, there are many chains and bolts. Mr. evegre got down quickly. We got down about 1 hour and 20 minutes and took a break at A-stream Col.
I was in a sense of tension and in a sense of satisfaction that came from beautiful mountains and rocky road.
The point of HidaNaki or Hida-crying and Hasegawa peak appeared,We passed through famous points one by one.
Although bolts and chains are drastically increasing compared to 40 years ago, there are places where the rock corners has become worn and slippery, so it is not safe.
Chains and bolts had decreased since Hasegawa peak. It is close to ordinary rockey road here. Today I met with Korean group. I did not have a common language with that Korean group of climbers. We were hard to communicate with each other. However, when I said "Pai Tin!" (=do best)with Korian, the Korean replyed with smiles"Pai Tin!".
Climbing to Mt.Minami was a easyer route than Mt.Kita-Hotaka side. Suddenly I opened the sight of the Mt.Yari as I passed through Shishiwa. We crossed the mountains of Mt.Minama,Mt.Naka,Mt.Oobami one after another. We arrived at Mt.Yari hut about 3 PM.
I took a momentum and went to the head of Mt.Yari,in a heavy traffic jam. The Chinese were climbing forward of us. The Canadians were walking just behind us.
Sunday, July 15 Day 4
We ate breakfast at 5 o'clock. We immediately started returning to the top of the Mt.Yari. This is the second time in this mountain trip. The climbing route is crowded again this morning.
A climber from Shenzhen appeared when we were preparing to go down to Kamikochi. He stayed at Mt.Hotaka hut in the second night. However, yesterday he walked 14 hours towards Mt.Yari hut.awesome!
I followed up after Evegre running down to Kamikochi. We arrived at KonashiDara camping resort's public baths in less than 6 hours. And we arrived at Kamikochi Bus Terminal before 2 PM.
However, the bus stop had as many as 200 m long lines. The bus ticket leaving by 4:45 PM was sold out.We picked up a taxi with evegre's move. We shared a taxi.We went to Matsumoto with a climber from Xi'an.
Limited Express Azusa's reserved seat ticket leaving Matsumoto by 7:21 PM was sold out. We ate a lot of Yakiniku or Japanese grilled beef and beer at Konami restaurant where we often go.
I had a conversation with many people during the long crimbing. I was surprised that there were many climbers from abroad. There were days when more than half of the climbers whom I met were from abroad.
It was a surprise for me. But when l talked to them l felt they were very nice people. Communication with them was interesting for me.
We were walking on the same route as young people both Japnese and abroad. We think we fought well for four days.
